Koalas in the Park

Everybody loves to hug a Koala.

Mikkira Station, located just near the entrance to Lincoln National park in Sth Aust, is one of many places in Australia where you can get up close to these beautiful creatures in the wild.

One of the best surprises for me was to stumbling onto these Koalas virtually in my very own backyard.

We spotted this mother and its joey in Heathcote National park south of Sydney.

A koala's joey is the size of a jellybean at birth and has no hair, no ears, and is blind.

Joeys crawl into their mother's pouch immediately after birth, and stay there for about six months.

That's about how long it takes for them to see, grow ears and hair, and walk (or waddle) on their own.

When they're about six months old, joeys venture out into the world, although they stay pretty close to their mother – usually by riding on her back.

I spotted this mother and Joey in Heathcote National park which is south of Sydney.

I would think this joey is almost at the stage of leaving home but still feels safe hugging on to mums back

Life can be so tiring being a Koala
